Emergency Room Referrals

If you have been referred from the emergency room you should have been given an appointment by the emergency room doctor.

I want to see all emergency room patients within 7 days of having been seen in the emergency room.

If you have an appointment longer than 7 days please call the Casper Orthopedics appointment line for a sooner appointment. They can be reached at 307-265-7205.

When in doubt please call the office and a staff member will assist you and contact me personally for information.

If you had an injury please refer to the following recommendations:

  • Elevate the arm or leg for at least 48 hours after injury
  • Apply ice to the injured area for 48 hours. I have found the best method is just a plastic bag with ice ( or frozen peas) from the freezer. Please do not apply the plastic directly to the skin. A small towel over the area is usually sufficient.
  • Keep the cast dry.
  • Do not stick anything down the cast. It will itch but introducing something between the skin and the cast will only make things worse.

Please call the orthopedic office or the emergency room immediately when any of the following apply:

  • New numbness or new weakness.
  • Fever/chills, redness near a wound site, or foul odor from cast/splint.
  • Worsening numbness or weakness.
  • Pain that does not improve with elevation of the extremity in 1 hour.
  • Any concern that was not adequately covered in the emergency room
